I consider the client–counselor relationship to be the most important part of the therapeutic process. Both the client and I contributing to the treatment course will be far more successful than one of us dominating the conversation. I truly value my clients’ opinions when formulating treatment plans because they know best what options will and will not work for them. Naturally, all successful relationships are based upon a shared respect between two people, and I approach the client–counselor relationship no differently.
